The Healthy Life

Workout for Fast-Paced Lifestyles

My people, how have we been these past few weeks? Eating healthy? Working out? Living a stress free and happy lifestyle?  Please tell me yes!

It is the fourth month of the year and some of us are recovering from the first quarter, analysing and probably resetting our goals for this next chapter of the year. A chunk of us also have exams and we know how those periods can get. All the best from me!

I am seeing a lot of us altering our lives to suit the fast-paced lifestyle that accompanies this period and usually, the first thing we sacrifice is our beautiful relationship with our workout routines… don’t worry, you are not alone, we are all guilty.

Today, I want us to look at a quick exercise that can keep us healthy and fit without taking up too much of our time.

In due time, I will upload videos of myself performing exercises on my YouTube channel.

 HIIT

“HIIT” is an abbreviation for High Intensity Interval Workout and I have a funny nickname for it ‘’quick-quick short-short” It can be performed by anyone and most importantly, anywhere. Gym, home, the great outdoors, the treadmill, I mean anywhere. All you need is a stopwatch to time yourself and the willpower to conquer ‘’quick-quick short-short”

These type of workouts helps burn calories faster. I’m going to teach you an easy but highly effective one. I dipped my hand deep into the HIIT workout bag AKA ‘’quick-quick short-short” bag and today, we will look at a workout that I call the 30-15 workout.

This is how it works; you sprint for 30 seconds then you slow down and walk briskly for 15 seconds then repeat. THAT IS IT.

Let me explain the science behind the 30-15. The 30 second sprint is meant to get the heart pumping and as we all know, sprinting is a good cardio workout but, we cannot sprint forever hence, our little 15 second ‘break’.’ This 15second break is a brisk walk and the aim is for us to rest while being active.

Performing this for 10 minutes every morning or evening is immensely beneficial and if possible, performing morning AND evening is perfect. This will strengthen our heart muscles and improve our stamina and cardio all the while, burning calories. If you feel up for a challenge, you can do it for 15 minutes. This is not one of those exercises where you will need a scale or a tape measure to measure your waist line to see or feel improvements. It is almost instant; you will feel good and you will notice the fat deposits around your body reducing within a week.

It is a new week, try the 30-15 and let me know how you feel and how difficult or easy you found it. Also, very important, because of the nature of the workout, forgetting to stretch before and after the workout might lead to muscle cramps so, please stretch adequately pre and post workout.

Next time I come here, we can look at more HIIT workouts and when my YouTube channel is fully up, I can show you some very important stretching techniques.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy the 30-15
